How much room does a hot tub require?

Question:

"How much room does a hot tub require?"

Answer:

All that is really needed is enough room around the hot tub for a service technician to access the internal components of the hot tub during installation, and at a later time if repairs are ever needed. So, about 2 to 3 feet of clearance all around the hot tub would be a good start, unless you enjoy dealing with very grumpy technicians.

However, hot tub cover lifters also need space on one side of the hot tub so you should plan ahead for these before deciding to place the hot tub too close to a wall. If you choose a roll-away cover assist you will need to allow about one half the width of your hot tub cover so it can be folded in half and rolled off to one side of your hot tub.

Then, take into account the "splash" factor and make sure you place your hot tub far enough away from priceless heirlooms that will not be too happy receiving an occasional splash of water, especially if you are placing it indoors. Hot tubs are a lot of fun, and splashing water is not an uncommon event when two people are enjoying the hot tub's water.

The only other thing to consider is how easy it is to get into and out of your hot tub. It's not a good idea to place it where you need to be a contortionist in order to squeeze yourself into an odd position just to get into your hot tub.

Finally, place your hot tub close enough to an exterior door in your house so you don't have to run a 50 yard dash in the middle of winter just to enjoy your hot tub, unless you really enjoy running long distances in the snow...
